Using LaCRIS

LaCRIS has two user interfaces, the backend system for keeping up the information and the research portal for publishing it:

Access to the backend system is restricted by logging in with Haka authentication system. Internal users have different roles in the system according to their tasks in the university. Different roles have different rights to see, add, update and delete information in the system.

Researchers, teachers and other people, who are writing publications or taking part in projects, are so-called personal users, who have access and rights to all their own data.

The administrative secretaries of the faculties and the Arctic Centre have access to all personal data of their organizational unit. The project secretaries have access to all project and award data. Library people have access to all publication, activity and media activity data.

The research portal is open for anyone, but only part of personal data is visible in the portal. The visibility of all items in the system (person, project, output, activity, media activity, prize) can be set to be public or available only in the backend system.

Access to LaCRIS

Everyone who has current job or visiting researcher's contract with a faculty, the Arctic Centre, the Language Centre, the Education and Development Services or the Open University or who is registered as attending PhD Candidate has automatically access to LaCRIS to update own profile data or to input or update own data of output, activities, press and media activities and prizes.

People, who are working in other Units and who are writing publications or taking part in research, art, education or development projects, will get access to LaCRIS from the administrator of the system,

Administrative and support staff will get access to LaCRIS from the administrator of the system,, for reporting and other purposes.

Access to LaCRIS ends, when the job or visiting researcher's contract ends or when the PhD Candidate completes his / her degree or the registration as attending PhD Candidates ends.

You can edit settings in your user interface by clicking the small arrow next to your userID in the black bar on top of the window:

userID, small arrow down

By clicking the arrow you will be able to change the settings

Language settings: UI language, default submission language, email settings, message settings, task settings, trusted users

It's easiest to set English as the default submission language if most of your publications and activities are in English. Then the system sets it as default language for your publications and activities but you can change the language of any publication or activity without changing the default setting whenever needed.

You can choose, when and how often the system creates messages to you.

If you want to give someone the right to update your profile and input and edit your output, activities, press and media activities and prizes, you can set him / her as your trusted user. The person has to belong to the staff of our university or to be registered as an attending PhD Candidate but he / she doesn't need to have own personal profile in LaCRIS. By clicking "History and comments" in the left panel of your profile or your output and activities you can always see, who has input or edited your data.
