The ScienceDirect (Elsevier) database offers access to 2 000 electronic journals from various academic subject areas, for example natural sciences, technics, medicine, social sciences, humanities, economics.
Example: If you want to find full text articles on ’Refugees and Social Work’.
- Enter "social services" OR "social support" on the top line. This line searches from the full text of articles - it means, that if you are using common words as search terms, you will get huge amounts of hits. Note that you have to add the OR between the alternatives. Use quotes in phrases like "social services".
- You can narrow your search by using the line "With words in title, abstract or keywords", e.g. refugee or immigrant
- You can select also article types, like Review articles and Research articles

Search Results
- You can refine your results for example by date or by relevance.
- You can focus your search by selecting proposed alternatives on the left.
- Click "Download PDF" to see the full text and to print or save the article.
- "Get access" indicates that access to the full text is not available in Lapland University
- If you want to transfer your search results to the bibliographic manager RefWorks, use the boxes on the left to choose the records you want to export. Click then "Export".
